History

In 1956, the business was acquired by the Eisenbeiss family and a production facility for adhesives was built in the town of Wiesloch, near Heidelberg, Germany. Here new areas of growth in the production of chemical products for the screenprinting and textile printing industries were developed. High quality products such as AZOCOL emulsions and the PREGAN and PREGASOL lines soon became top sellers around the world.

The systematic growth in applications and customer education provided a further impulse towards product development.
KIWO became a worldwide influential industry leader in chemical systems for screenprinting by bringing numerous innovations to the market.

KIWO oriented itself to fulfill the demands of the market using the synergy of three branches of industry: screen printing, textile printing and adhesives.

Today KIWO offers complete solutions in screenprinting chemistry and technology with products of the highest quality.

With its manufacturing and corporate headquarters based in Brooklyn, New York, the ULANO Corporation is recognized as a world-class leader in the screen printing and graphics arts industry.
ULANO specializes in the manufacture of stencil-making products and chemicals for screen process printing as well as masking films, inkjet media, automated coating equipment, exposure test positives, and stencil evaluation tools.

The research, development and applications laboratories, a technical training centre and administration and manufacturing are housed in Brooklyn, New York.
ULANO was founded in the 1920s, by Joe Ulano. Working in the screen printing industry he invented the film stencil and film coating and the company developed into the world’s largest completely integrated, technologically driven, manufacturer of screen printing stencil systems.
In addition to the film stencil, Ulano. . .

1. Invented masking films (under the Rubylith® and Amberlith® brand names).

2. Formulated the first reclaimable, 100% solvent and water resistant emulsions.

3. Developed the first fast-exposing diazo resins.

4. Eliminated bichromates and di-butyl phthalate from all our photographic products.

5. Introduced capillary film to the world market.

6. Manufactures the widest range of indirect system photographic films in the industry.

7. Offered the first comprehensive, industry-specific line of screen chemicals.

ULANO’s new product introductions continue, and include EZ-FILM textile capillary film, new screen chemicals, Pulsar no-developer stencil film, QLT ultra-fast SBQ textile emulsion, QT-DISCHARGE emulsion for water-based and discharge inks, and Quasar R 100, a red indirect system photographic film.
In 1999, ULANO was acquired Kissel + Wolf GmbH (KIWO), a manufacturer of screen printing consumables, adhesives, automatic coating machines, and computer-to-screen equipment. New investments in ULANO’s facilities and staff followed the purchase, reinforcing the company’s traditional strengths in innovation, technical education, technical service, and market leadership, domestically and internationally.
ULANO’s future growth will be based on environmantal and technological innovations, with research, development skills and manufacturing capabilities, and distributed through our domestic and international channels.
